This artist lives outside of Dallas and does some absolutely GORGEOUS aluminum saggar work, also called "baked potato" firing. Saggars are containers that you fire the work in, inside the kiln, presumably to confine the piece and it's chemical contents so that it will fire differently. Some people make saggars out of clay, but it is far simpler to make them out of aluminum foil. Go to this forum's section on kilns and firing for more information about saggar firing.
Here is a piece she did with ferric chloride (absolutely deadly stuff -- don't mess with it without full body armor and a gas mask -- I'm NOT joking!)
this piece she named Turbulence. It garnered her a daily deviation in DeviantArt (its not what it sounds like. It's a fantastic online artist community. join it. You'll love it!)
her style is varied and beautiful. She also does fused glasswork.
I love deviantart. I have met so many wonderful artists from around the world on its awesome artcovered pages.
Lisa Luera is a fantastic ceramisit. She's been doing ceramics for about a year and a half while working full time. She is very talented.

I did a google search for my name looking for an old website and ran across this forum. Thank you for such a wonderful post and plug for my deviant art site. I really appreciate it. Wow! I'm glad you found this place. I was going to ask you to join it. I'm CorazondeDios on DevianArt.
I think you already have a watch on me.
I'm developing this site for ceramicists. I thought it would be nice to have a place where people could discuss the many aspects of clay, firing, glazing, scuplpting, throwing, and about a zillion other aspects of clay work.
If you know of any other ceramicists who would like to join in the discussion, please invite them to the site! |
